Perry has the father of actor Laurie Metcalf, and Jeff Perry. Perry made her debut on television as Jackie Harris, a character that was played by her mother on the ABC comedy Roseanne. Because of their fear of stress, the parents didn't want to see performing before she reached the age of age 18. Perry says she didn't want to become an actor during high school, but she decided to begin performing as a form of social interaction during her time at Northwestern University when she switched from Boston University. Perry started her acting career as an actress in New York after graduation, getting small roles on Law & Order: Criminal Intent. Then, homesickness led to Perry come back to California and pursue a career as a stage actress. Perry was a part of the cast with her mother as part of The Other Place at Broadway, back in 2013. Perry was in the show with her father Kevin McKidd and Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize winning drama Anna Christie in the year 2015 in the Odyssey Theatre Ensemble, West Los Angeles. In the year 2016, Perry appeared on nine episodes of ABC's crime thriller The Family. Her father played her on The ABC show Scandal. The actress also portrayed in the role of a young Mary Cooper in Young Sheldon, which is a CBS spin-off from The Big Bang Theory. Despite her family link to the character she got the part through an audition.
