Coleman was born and raised in the town of the town of Blackpool in Lancashire. She was a student at the Arnold School in Blackpool where she was the head girl. The British Soap Awards 2009 nominated Coleman for both categories: Best Actress - Sexiest Feminine as well as the Best Dramatic Performance category.
